SCAPES & SKULLS
New Paintings & Intaglio Prints
Exhibition: April 18 – May 10, 2015
Opening Reception: April 18, 6–8 PM | Opening Speech by Bodil Friele
"It is my artistic vision that brings life to my paintings. As living works of art, painting holds a vital place in the art world, reflecting the human condition and revealing new dimensions of life."
This exhibition features 15 new paintings and 4 intaglio prints, all created in Stray’s studio in Bergen. “SCAPES & SKULLS” continues Stray’s exploration of cityscapes, landscapes, and figurative imagery. The new works extend her acclaimed New York skyline series, originally painted at the World Trade Center, and now incorporate natural elements inspired by a painting project on Radøy, as well as figurative studies of people. The paintings are both poetic and painterly, inviting viewers to contemplate their layered meanings.
A series of “SKULLS”, inspired by a sculpture of the same theme, is also included. Stray works from direct observation, capturing the shifting light and color that bring her subjects to life. These works reflect the tensions and anxieties of contemporary life.
About the Artist:
"After more than 20 years in New York City, surrounded by urban landscapes, I have found new inspiration in the natural beauty and atmospheric moods of the Norwegian west coast. These elements are merging into new images, driven by my artistic vision. Painting has taken on renewed relevance in our time, reflecting new dimensions of reality and the human condition."
