Urban Vision, Bergen

Silkscreen, Edition of 25
Printed at Trykkeriet, Bergen

While Bergen is growing into my vision I have *2 prints still available. The silkscreen can be framed with a float (passepartout). A soft grey frame works particularly well, though some prefer a black frame.

The image tells a story and originates from a collaborative project led by Stray together with Tippetue Architects, an office of 8–12 architects based in central Bergen.
It is an elaboration and vision of Bergen in the future, where the surrounding mountains and well-known landmarks (landemerker) are integrated in new ways into the urban development (byutviklingen) of the city.

The various elements are built up as an elaborate collage by Stray, consisting of drawings and notes from the Tippetue project, including freehand drawings made on site from several viewpoints in Bergen. Some of these works were later scanned, digitized, reworked, and freely integrated into the collage to form the final silkscreen.

The work also includes contemporary newspaper clippings and three photographs taken by the artist of familiar locations—such as the Grieg statue, cobblestone patterns, old rooftops and characteristic chimneys—as well as annual events in the city, including the large illuminated Ferris wheel, here placed in the upper space above the mountain tops.

This is the artist’s contribution to the tradition of Bergen cityscapes known as by-prospekter. She has worked on cityscape projects on several occasions, both in New York and in her hometown of Bergen
